Fat Contact Portland #2

In this workshop, we will work through movement activities that bring us into direct physical contact with one another, asking the question 'what does it mean for fat people to touch?' Instead of routines, we will share in playful explorations guided by sets of instructions, both detailed and open. We will be serious about our time together, and probably also very silly!

This is open to all fat people, including those who have never set foot in a dance studio. Gillie is a very experienced facilitator, and is a specialist in working with people who are new to dancing in dance studios.

This workshop relates to the series Gillie led in Portland in 2024. These activities are part of an ongoing, long-term artistic inquiry which has included workshops and residencies in the UK, US and Brazil.

Because of the nature of the workshop, every activity has many options, though it would be a challenge to be in this workshop if physical touch is not possible for you. It is always helpful to learn about access requirements in advance where possible.

A note on pricing: Sliding scale $15-45. We are offering tickets in a 3 tier format to improve accessibility to our performances. Arts often depend on grant funding as ticket prices do not cover the full cost of production. Please choose the payment level that works for you, that allows you access to the performance, and supports the ongoing creation of art if possible. You can refer the work by Alexis Cunningfolk if you would like to more deeply contemplate where you fit into this scale:  wortsandcunning.com/blog/sliding-scale
